USC Will Cut 65 Viterbi IT Positions

Issue 007 · September 13, 2026

USC will eliminate 65 information technology positions at the Viterbi School of Engineering, according to a university layoff notice amended September 9. Employees have already been notified, with the layoffs taking effect between November 4 and December 3. USC cited funding cuts and budget reductions.

Affected jobs include programmers, systems administrators, network engineers and staff supporting classroom and online-learning technology. Positions at USC’s Information Sciences Institute and Institute for Creative Technologies are also included.

USC says the layoffs are expected to be permanent. The University will also post new positions that affected employees can apply for, but the notice does not say how many jobs will be available or how many employees might be rehired.
